Automated Message Translations

Eat App speaks your language!

When a guest books through your reservation widget, Eat App sends a confirmation message matching the language of the widget the guest booked on.

For example, a booking made on your German-language widget URL triggers the German version of your confirmation template, while the same widget without a language path sends the default (usually English) version.

For this to work correctly, you need a translated version of your template saved for each language you want to support, in addition to your original English template.

Prerequisites

  • A published reservation widget for your venue
  • Admin access to Message Templates in your Eat App dashboard
  • A translated version of your confirmation template created for each additional language

How Language Selection Works

  1. Go to Integrations > Widget and create a new widget version with the language you want to support. You can import settings from an existing widget so they behave the same way.

  1. When a guest completes a booking on one of these widget versions, the system looks for a template saved in that matching language.

  1. If a matching translated template exists, it's sent. If it doesn't exist, the template falls back to the default (English) version.

Note: Only the template matching the widget language at the time of booking is used — guests don't choose their message language separately from the widget they booked on.

Create your message template

Go to Messaging > Message Library in your dashboard and open the message type you want to update.

Create the new message template for the language you want to support (e.g., English original, plus German and Arabic translations).

Add a subject line for your template and click on Edit Message Body:

You can then translate the message text and save your new message template:

Important: Make sure links and variables are not translated as those need to remain in english to work properly

Once this is done, guests will receive their confirmation messages based on the widget language they picked when booking the reservation, no additional steps required!

Troubleshooting:

  • Confirmation shows English even though I created a French/German/Arabic version: Double-check that the translated template was saved and published under the correct language tab in the template editor — not just typed into the same template as the English version.
  • WhatsApp confirmations don't match the widget language: WhatsApp template messages currently support a single approved language per template; if you need multi-language WhatsApp confirmations, reach out to your account manager to discuss options.
  • A guest who rebooked in a different language still received the previous language's message: This is a known edge case tied to repeat bookings using identical guest details. If this happens, contact support with the reservation ID.
